In which I ramble

I was thinking about Christmas today, and wondering what I was going to adk my parents for. My dad always goes all out and gets like millions (okay not millions, but many) presents for me and my brother and there's usually some cash involved. My mom goes a little less crazy, which is fine. All in all, I have 2 divorced parents that are both re-married and I spend time with all families (exluding my step-fathers for reasons that take a way long time to explain) and recently (the past 2 years) I've added my boyfriend's family to the mix. This usually means that I have between 3 and 5 days of Christmas, depending on everyone's schedules.

But I digress, I was thinking of wonderful knitterly gifts I could ask for. Sweater amounts of yarn, beautiful harmony needles, knitting books, subscriptions to knitting magazines (Actually I just thought of that one and that would be good too...), stitch markers, needle rolls, etc.

But then I wondered, what kind of yarn would I really end up with? Should I tell them specific brands and colorways? Should I ask for single skeins of yummy yarn and let them pick the colors? What if I end up with 70s appliance color yarn (I know that the Yarn Harlot loves those colors and I think they're alright, seperately, if I get to pick the color)?

Plus, they don't know that I'm an uber knit-geek, yet. My mom sort of knows (I knit in the car and when I'm at her house), and my boyfriend definitely knows, but my dad has almost no idea. Should I reveal the extent of my new knitting obsession?

I asked Ravelry and they suggested gift certificates or maybe specific things in catalogues.

I figure if I tell them to go to Heavenly Creations and talk to Wendy they'll have a pretty good chance of coming away with something I'll love (she knows the extent of my Malabrigo obsession), or at least with a gift certificate (you guys have those, right?)

I've begun Christmas knitting. So far on the needles I have a lace scarf (Muir) for my grandmother, Lighthouse Socks (Ravlink) for my mom, and I just started the Reversible Cable Brioche Scarf with Plymouth Alpaca Worsted Glow (color 2028). It's soft, and sparkly, and the pattern makes this super squooshy fabric and I love it so much. I'm going to make one for me sometime. Probably after Christmas (all the homework is cutting into my knitting time and I don't have a lot of extra time for knitting for myself).

Also on the needles I have my Clapotis Scarf(Ravlink), and my mom's Emerald(Ravlink).

I put The Sleeve (it gets capitalized, it's that evil) in time out for a couple of days because I was mad at it. I worked on the Brioche Scarf (♥). I worked 2 more increases last night. I'd like to have it finished by Friday (probable) because I see my mom on Saturday and I don't want to have to tell her I'm knitting the same sleeve.. again.

The other day I was complaining about homework. He said "Yeah, but it's not like we have anything better to do. What else would you be doing?"

I just looked at him.

He said: "Never mind. You'd be knitting. I don't know why I even asked that."

Love him.

Yes we have gift certificates!! And you just gave me a GREAT idea....what about customer "wish lists"...like, customers give me a list of their special secret yarns they want, and then when they send in family and friends we can pick stuff from the list?!?!

I LOVE buying presents for people anyway, and this would be like getting to help pick out everyone's gifts myself!!!!
